When you think of fire safety at restaurants, most minds first jump to fire extinguishers and smoke alarms. But what if we told you that those are secondary fire safety measures? That, in actuality, your first line of defense is a clean kitchen?
Greasy, gunked-up kitchen equipment is a leading cause of restaurant fires. At Audit Fire Protection, our mission is to reduce restaurant fire hazards by providing state-of-the-art kitchen exhaust cleaning and hood cleaning services. We partner with restaurants, hotels, cafeterias, and other commercial kitchens in the Atlanta area to prevent dangerous, costly grease fires.

Why Is Kitchen Hood Cleaning Necessary?
We’ve established that grease is a fire hazard, but why? Grease comes from rendered fat and oil—otherwise known as fuel. And when fuel comes in contact with flames or extremely high heat, the result is combustion. That’s what makes grease buildup in your range hood or exhaust system so dangerous: All it takes is a grill flareup or an overheating oven to ignite a fire inside your kitchen.
And, unfortunately, your range hood, vent, filter, and exhaust fan are where most of your grease accumulates (aside from your grease trap, of course). This is because they’re designed to extract grease from the air. During this process, airborne grease goes into your hood and exhausts through the baffle filters. Then, it travels into the plenum, upward into the grease duct, and through the fan—where it either disperses back into the air or deposits into the grease trap below.
The downside to this process, though, is that grease solidifies as it cools, so it can quickly build up inside these mechanisms.
Now you understand why local fire safety codes mandate routine kitchen exhaust cleaning and range hood cleaning. According to NFPA 96 (a national standard for ventilation control and fire prevention in commercial cooking operations), your commercial kitchen equipment must be inspected and cleaned on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis. How frequently this must be done is determined by the volume of cooking that your kitchen performs.
Fortunately, no matter how often you need a certified inspection or cleaning, Audit Fire Protection is here to help. We’ll leave your commercial kitchen equipment spotless so you pass your next code inspection with flying colors.
